We have a new family member. Her name is Mila.

She and I have known one another for a long time, but parted ways seven years ago. I worked alone at a gallery for three years right out of college and Mila was my only companion. The gallery owner adopted her for the gallery and when the location closed, she no longer had a home. Because I already had Pico and Lucy, I wasn't able to care for her and convinced a friend to take her in. Fast forward seven years and he needed to find a new home for her right away (long story) and I, without hesitation, happily said yes.

She is, and always was, the sweetest cat who ever lived. She is ten years old and still chases paper balls, the same game I played with her as a kitten.

Lucy and Mila are temporarily having a turf war, with Mila not really caring, but Lucy continues to sulk in the corner. But at least Lucy is in the main part of the house and not in my closet - her chosen spot when Pico was around.

The greatest part is that she doesn't hide from Avery, but actually lets him pet her - face and all. Pico would rip your hand off if you touched her belly, but Mila rolls over for belly rubs. Avery loves her already and shouts "kitty!" when he sees her across the room. This brings me such joy.

Wow...it's been awhile. Passed that one year mark and stopped taking pictures. Actually, it's been hard to keep up with the little guy since he began walking (running!) at 13 months. Every picture is a blur.

Events:
• Went trick-or-treating! And Mommy and Daddy are eating ALL the candy!
• Has taken a few steps, but still very unsure of this walking business. Will happily push a cart unattended.
• Regularly saying Daddy, Nanny, Hi, Mommy (Momma), Yay, Ba (ball) and now Pop Pop (sorta)
• 3rd tooth has broken through on the bottom (4 on top, three on bottom)
• Current favorite toy, besides his many balls, is his spinning top.

Week 47, Part 2 - Blessing of the Animals

In honor of St. Francis, our church holds an outdoor service where people are invited to bring their animal companions for a blessing. We brought Pico, who now resides in a tiny tin container, and Avery's sleeping companion Lambie.

A different experience than last time.

Events:
• Regularly saying "mama," "dada," "ba" (for ball), "hi," and now "nana." He is a little chatterbox.
• Really loving shaking his head from side to side, especially during meals.
• Traces from the rash have finally disappeared. Yes, it took that long.

Week 42, Part 1 - Quarantined

Events:
• First high fever (103.8!) due to Roseola.
Today marks the fourth day of the rash - it just doesn't seem to want to go away. The high fever knocked him out for one day only and after we lowered it with Motrin, he quickly recovered. It looks terrible but it doesn't seem to itch or bother him in the least.

• Avery stopped breastfeeding on Saturday night. Cold turkey. I can't even trick him into latching on. It saddens me, but it made weaning a breeze.

• Went to Chincoteague/Assateague to see the wild ponies herded by the saltwater cowboys. The annual pony swim was two days later. Did I mention we were on the beach by 6:30am?

• Fourth of July weekend - witnessed first fireworks display on the 5th. Harborfest had closing fireworks at 7:30 (still daylight) over the water. At the insistence of his father, we sat behind Waterside - up close and personal. I had my hands covering his ears the whole time and Avery did well, until the finale, which caused total meltdown. I think I rest my case.

• buzzing like a bee. Sounds like he's trying to play an invisible trumpet, but he's been trying to copy a toy he has which "buzzes like a bee." Video for proof to follow.

Avery played with his little buddy Torben, who was visiting from up north. Torben is 3 months older and we haven't seen him since his last visit. Both have changed so much.

• first dip in a baby pool - sat there splashing with an intense look on his face

• 6.75 month checkup = 19 lbs. 27 in. tall

• Visited Uncle Adam for the first time
• Two bottom teeth broke through!
• Has been really cranky because of teething
• Doesn't want to sit, but would rather stand. Stiffens body like a board when placed down.

• Getting really frustrated when trying to crawl. Tries and then slams his head down and cries.
• Is mastering the "mooncrawl" - pushing himself backward

• Avery was baptized on May 3 at Saint Paul's. He was the perfect angel and charmed the entire parish.
• Godparents were recognized during the ceremony – Marissa, Mike and Peter. He's a lucky boy.
• He now reaches to be held! This melts my heart every time.

Events:
Avery met his cousins and my maternal relatives for the first time at Laura Sophie's baptism in Chincoteague. He learned how play to with his tongue on Saturday and proceeded to blow bubbles, razz, and stick his tongue out the entire weekend.

This week has been tough for Avery, as he's suffering from eczema on his face so red & chapped to the point it bleeds. We took him to the doctor where she prescribed him an antibiotic creme, so we're just hoping it goes away soon because the little guy keeps trying to rub his face which only worsens the matter.

Back to cold weather. Spent the week indoors.

Avery is now in a play group with two girls his age.

The little guy is trying to impress the girls already.

Spent the weekend with Bobby's family

and had dinner at Peter's, aka Sahm-chon.

Events:
He had his 4 month check-up. We're going to start introducing solids soon and he weighs a hearty 15.25 lbs. (60th percentile weight and 75th in height).

This week brought warmer weather,

which was perfect for walking around the neighborhood

and visiting the local zoo with friends.

This week's events:
• noticed Pico for the first time and is completely smitten
• attended Church for the first time looked dashing, but soon had a blow-out after the service so we were unable to get any pictures. He was a perfect angel during the service.

We finally got the pathology results today - BENIGN! The doctor said the mass showed characteristics of an irregular hemangioma and at this point, is nothing to worry about.

Avery has really started to enjoy his exersaucer and best of all, is teaching himself how to razz.

Rolled from tummy to back on softer surfaces.

Tested out the exersaucer, but didn't attempt to touch the toys. Sat and looked intently, seemingly overwhelmed.
